Hi. I'd like to know if it is possible to change the secondary air valves and vacuum hoses on the 545i (2004) without removing the intake manifold.
Anyone with experience getting this done please share.

Also, is there a DIY for changing the valves and hoses? I need to get mine changed ASAP.

i finally got around to checking the hoses. they are fine. i had to remove the intake manifold to access them but it wasn't too difficult. unfortunately, this means i still haven't found the what's causing the low secondary air mass error i'm getting for bank 2. the air pump seems to be working.

not sure what to check next.

may as well replace the hose since you are there. It is only going to get more brittle as time goes.

+1 - replace the Y-hose and the valve since you have the intake out. This plastic hose can develop small cracks that are very hard to track.

the Y - hose is in really good condition so i've chosen not to change it just yet. i just found out that the breather hoses on both my CCVs (PRVs) are not in place. is this normal? i took the valves off - they are in very good condition (like new) but the hoses are not there. what should those hoses be connected to? anyone with pictures of where the small breather hoses that should leave the CCVs are connected will be really appreciated. in mine, the nipples on the ends of the CCVs are not connected to anything.

I'm going to be doing this in a week or two.

When you remove the intake manifold, is it possible to leave the the injectors attached the manifold and just disconnect the fuel line going to the rail, and remove the manifold, injectors and fuel rail as a unit?

Any tips you can give?

Thanks.

Do you guys have any updates on this fix? I am getting the same error when hooking my 545i up to a Bavarian Technic reader. I have reset the fault code but it comes back after a few days.

I?m planning on replacing both air pump valves and the y-hose. I will update this thread afterwards and let you guys know if the fix removes the fault code.

Thanks,
Jonathan Seastrom
