Default DIY 08 550I thermostat

I have 08 550I sport that is coding for a bad thermostat. The car is not overheating at this point so I think if i can get the thermostat changed I will be ok. Does anyone have any good direction on doing this your self? I usually have maintenance done at the dealership but it's like getting robbed going in there now! Any help would greatly be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Eric

We have the same car, i did mine last year. I took out the 3 bolts on the housing and the coolant will drain out. Then i took the hose off the housing by pulling the clip off and the hose will pull free.

Thanks! That sounds like a pretty easy process. I'm a little hesitant about doing this but I'm gonna give it shot! I haven't priced the parts yet, do you have any recommendations or just go to local auto parts store?

Get the BMW OEM one from ECS Tuning - BMW E60 550i N62 4.8L Search SiteSearch Thermostat - 11537586885 - Thermostat - 105C - ES#205475 That's the one i bought for $53. You will need coolant to replace whatever you lose. So if you go the part store route you will need to get full grade antifreeze (no water added). I had to get two bottles because a lot drained out. I am now in the process of switching back to the BMW blue coolant just because i want the OEM stuff but i went all winter on the Prestone stuff.

Thanks for the info...WOW...I checked pricing at my local NAPA and they were $109.00 for the thermostat and housing.
