Been following the debate on the RFT's and other options and decided to go for the Goodyear Eagle F1's.

Costs for full set on 124 wheels from mytyres.co.uk

2 x 245/40 (Front) - Unit - ?123.70 - Total = ?247.40
2 x 275/30 (Rear) - Unit - ?150.20 - Total = ?300.40

Total - ?547.80
Fitting - ?38.00

GRAND TOTAL = ?585.80

BMW quoted me ?1100 to replace the Dunlop RFT's and even National Tyres were quoting ?850+ to fit new Goodyear Eagle F1's so I think I got a very good price here. If you know of a better price, post it. I am so grateful to E60.net for a post that directed me to mytres.co.uk. Without this site I would probably have got BMW to replace them at their prices.

I just have to say that just like everyone else I have now experienced the difference, and it is a truly spectacular difference in ride quality. I'm yet to experience the difference in stability, performance etc as I've only driven it home from the tyre change but I just had to let the board know.

I read on a previous post that it's like taking off your shoes and putting on some sneakers (trainers for us UK lot!) and I agree 120%. The ride quality is a 'deeper' level of comfort and my car now feels like what I thought it should have felt like when I first picked it up.

Maybe RFT technology/ride quality will improve in time and I'll switch back, but for now, I'm happy to stay non-RFT.

I still have the original 135's (only 7 miles on them - they were changed to 124's at dealer before delivery) which came with the car so I'll be using one of them as a spare.

I can't stop shaking my head whenever I think of the difference. If, like me, you're considering the switch, do it!! You will not regret it.
FANTASTIC PRICE and a great idea to keep a full size spare.

I had to swap my back tyres in a hurry (puncture) and got fleeced by Kwikfit (who were the fastest)

?440 for 2 conti sport contact's 275/30/r19

Ouch!!

I paid ?578 for the set of 4 Pirelli P Zero Rossos, although only 18's, from a local Holburn, they matched the quickfit online price with no quibbles at all.
Who just happened to be a bit cheaper than mytyres.co.uk as they were doing a buy 4 and pay for 3 deal.

Oh... 124's are 18" - I think he meant 275/35 on the back ....

Yes. I should have put

245/40/R18 (front wheels)
275/35/R18 (rear wheels)

I heard about the 4 tyres for the price of 3 offer at Kwik Fit but it wasn't offered when I was quoted on the phone. I was quoted over ?700. Can't remember the exact figure but I had mytyres price up on screen when I called them and they said they couldn't match it.

I just put on a new set of Eagle F1 GS-D3's last weekend (over style 124 staggered wheels) and they are, quite simply, astonishingly good tires. Much quieter, smoother and stickier than the Dunlop RFT's. In fairness, I had always though the RFT's weren't too bad, but, having fitted the Eagle F1's, the differences are crystal clear - and some of the cabin rattles have gone away as well. Can't recommend the Eagle's enough - I bought them based on feedback here, the 9 tire Car and Driver test (which they won) and on TireRack feedback and they are without doubt worth every penny.

G-R-O-A-N...(and creak and rattle), I shed my winter Semperits tomorrow morning and go back to my OEM (1500 miles) Thumpflats. :'( At least I had a winter of peace and quiet, although the body has loosened up; I'm afraid it's really gonna loosen up once those things are remounted.

On the other hand, I'll be able to play racerboy a bit more....Anybody reset a (continuous) trip mileage to compare the thumpflats economy to that of normal high-performance tires? Probably not much difference, mine went from about 20 avg to 21 avg with the snows; neither are designed for low rolling resistance.

Cheers,
Ray Hull
