Is anyone aware of a way to disable PDC. I have never needed it before and find it intrusive. Plus I do not want to ever depend on it.

If you still decide to disable it... just push the PDC button next to the shifter...

I think he mean disabling it permanently. The only way is just disable the screen but there will still be beeping.
I think is not depending on it. It just make your life easier, I sometimes drive cars without PDC and I am perfectly okay by it.

Why did you get it in the first place?

This begs the question:
Why did you get it in the first place?

At least in the US...

Yes, I mean disabling it permanently.
Yes, it was standard on my 550i. I would not have ordered it if it had been an option.
The possibility that it might save my rear bumper does not offset the fact that it is just one more blasted thing beeping in my ear. Especially since it goes solid when you are 10 inches away from an object.
And of course I have parallel parked for 30+ years without it.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Since new 550s don't all have Active Steering, I guess you may be more confortable parallel parking than I. While I do find the PDC annoying, it has saved my rear end, literally, a couple of times. And those instances have usually involved over-steering or correcting, while backing into a tight space. I am still trying to get used to the steering on this car (I seldom park parallel) and welcome the PDC as that learning process continues.
I might also add the the rearward view/sight out of this car is atrocious, and I'm 6'3". I can't imagine short people having to do rearward maneuvers without some assistance. In sum, I hope you get along fine without it, and maybe someday I will too; but right now, its chirping is almost welcome.
Cheers,
Ray Hull

I believe he's made up his mind that he doesn't want it. It always amazes me how people try to convince someone to use something they don't want.
Ok, here's my input. There's a PDC brain in the trunk that you can unplug, but you'll probably have to recode the car to not recognize that's it's there any more to avoid software errors and such. It's probably not worth the effort and cost.
RealOEM.com has some pictures of the module and where it's located.
