DISA Rattle
Previously (about 1-2 months ago) on my M54 E60, I have heard on the cold start the DISA rattles and makes loud ticking noise. If I unplug the cable the rattle stops and then plug it back in and it starts again. Repeating this process stop the noise, or if I let it go, after a few minutes as the engine warms up the noise is gone as well. I have checked the disa seems to be functioning fine, I have changed the O-ring as well. Not sure if this is normal or a sign of something that is going to go wrong next. I got a stored error code 281E/P1511, and after clearing the error it did not reappear.
After an oil change today, the DISA rattle noise would stay for every and get louder if I accelerate.
Has anyone observed this issue on there M54 engine?

Have you removed the DISA valve and visually inspected it recently? My guess is that the pin that holds the flapper to the housing is worn and the flapper is rattling. If this is the case, do something about it IMMEDIATELY. If the pin works its way completely out it'll get sucked into a cylinder, and boom goes the motor.
German Auto Solutions sells a nice DISA upgrade kit for less than half the price of a new DISA. I installed one on my car last year; it's cheap insurance and peace of mind.
