Default DISA problems in E60 2004 545i

'DISA problems in E60 2004 545iDISA problems in E60 2004 545i'

After checking from INPA, Code 2821 (DISA temp. warn level engine protection model) and 2820 (Failure DISA) came out (refer to attached photos).

The value of DISA read from INPA also attached (is the value normal?).

My car currently experience a rough and low idle (500 rpm, even after cleaning the MAF and throttle).

Is the DISA drive unit has to be replaced? or just need cleaning?
How can I know the unit is out of motor?
or just other sensor

Any brother can share advice and experience.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't had time to do it yet, but I've read on the 7 series forums that those codes are related to oil build up in the intake manifold causing stress on the DISA. The solution is to either split the intake manifold and clean it or get a new one.

Mike, thank for your kind reply.

Do you means just to clean up the DISA drive unit only?(any other part of the intake manifold system need to be clean?)

or buy a new DISA drive unit to replace?

Thanks.

Cleaning up the rotating mechanism inside the intake manifold.

good gosh these intake manifolds on N62 look like they weigh a ton. Do you have any other pics of the internals?

Thanks again.
Cleaning up the rotating mechanism inside the intake manifold seem to be a hard work for a DIY beginner like me.

For code 2820 (Failure DISA), Does it mean that the DISA drive unit not working anymore?
Could I just replace the DISA drive unit only?

If I just ignore the code and do nothing, any adverse effect to the engine in long run (except rough idle)?

Not my pictures BTW. Another members pictures when he was rebuilding an n62. And yeah they're pretty heavy. Had mine off when I changed the coolant transfer pipe.

I don't think just changing the drive motor will do anything. Its the gunk inside thats putting stress on the motor. My car is my daily so its tough to take it off the road for extended periods of time. So mine has been like this for about a year. I eventually plan on buying a used manifold to clean then swap it over.

These are very light .. the whole assembly is only made of aluminium and plastic.
Not sure where you got that they are heavy??
