My 530i is in and the dealer is offering body colored door muolding to avoid small dings on the door panels. I have seen it, and Im not sure if it will take away from the lines of the car. The moulding is mounted across the doors not on the door edges. Anyone have problems with small dings on the doors

Just don't park next to any cars! Park well away. It sounds quite strange having a protector strip across the 5er, I think it would spoil the lines. BMW and Audi are moving away from them, while mercedes are still using them

Why add them when they probably are uglier than the dings?

My dealer's body guy buffed a long valet parker scratch out of my left rear door today. Even though the paint was actually scratched before, it looks great, so even I can hardly tell there was a scratch. AND he did it for FREE!!!! (It was in the dealer for something else, a noisy auxiliary water pump.)

Free is good. I'm happy with my first voluntary service appointment, I can tell you that.

The only door ding I had was dealer induced. They took it out OK. Can't see it, but can feel it with the touch.

Without seeing what they are offering, I'd think any body molding would really take away from the lines of the car. I'd rather take my chances and get the odd ding repaired as needed. And the a-holes of the world will still find a way to ding you in a different spot. I guess I'd rank this dealer offer almost up there with the paint sealant or under body rust protection.

I say the flowing surfaces and the curves on the doors are too important to the design to clutter them up. kscarrol is right that inventive neighbors will just ding you elsewhere. SUV doors are too high for such strips, anyhow. So I agree no.
