Dim i-Drive Display

I have an appointment next week for some regular maintenance, but lately, I've noticed that the i-Drive display is kind of dim when I first start the car.
I've adjusted the brightness control and it doesn't get any brighter. It just seems that after a 10 minute warm up, I actually get a bright display.
Is there a light sensor that I may be blocking?

The small little hole underneath the display is the light sensor.

Mine only ever did this on cold mornings and it's been relatively cold here in the bay area of late. In my case I think it was more to do with ambient temperature. As we warm up heading into spring your problem will hopefully take care of itself. My Porsche is just the same - takes a little while longer for the display to reach full brightness on colder mornings.

LCDs usually have CFL flouresecent backlights - you could well be onto something with it being temperature. I tought the idrive brightness was fed by the sensor behind the mirror (as well as it being the mirror dip).... could well be wrong tho
