The M-5 all the way. How much is the dealer going to give you for your car?

Find an 07 550i with everything you want. Pocket a few thou and buy new now. I went "pre-owned" for many years and lemme tell ya, new is nice.

I would say M with how you've explained the price difference however, on the 08 550 w/msports kit - loaded and proper realtionship with dealer you may be able to get the $72,000 MSRP down closer to $65,000 - $68,000 on a buy or lease...if leasing, you would get an even better deal on th 08 550i with the lower MF...

Its interesting...and I don't mean to sound impolite...honest...but for one, none of you with comments on this choice have owned a 550i!

no problem...my response is based on the purchasing side of the decision and maybe offering some "input" that "might" help with the bigger picture as requested.

I've driven the 545i sport for 3+ years and test driven the new 08 550i msport. I dont feel too much difference between the 2 however, plenty of refinements for me to make the decision on a new lease...as far as the 08 550i vs M5 I feel qualified to add my 2 cents because I was even closer to that same decision with MSRP of aprox $74,000 on the new 08 550i Msport. But, with the discount I received from dealer, MF, and the BMW loyalty program its a no-brainer on the 08 550i for me...

Drove the M5 yesterday...

OMG!!!

What a beast. The salesman had me jump on the freeway he bumped to 500hp and told me to punch it...

... I looked down and I was doing 145.

Now to convince the wife...

My dealer called me yesterday. They just took in a used M5 with 3,125 miles. The guy who traded it in does this every year, he has to have the newest.

So, here are the problems:

I wasn't planning on trading in my 545 until Feb '08.
The 550i that I built up online came out to $72,545
They are asking $80,000 for the M5.

Options, 550i ?vs-M5

M5 ? No sunshades, we have a baby this is a problem
M5 ? No Sirius, little thing
M5 ? 500hp GOOD THING
M5 ? Original sticker was $87,xxx including gas guzzler.

Any input would be appreciated.
Depends how you drive and what you want in terms of comfort and useability. I test drove both M5 and 550 and ended up buying the 550 with the M Sport Package. Looks wise , almost identical, not as fast but a great everday drive with more power than I can hardly ever use. If you were going to keep the car forever you can always count on the classic timelessness of the M5 but who keeps a car forever.

Cheers
