Hi,
My 2005 525i has 30000 km and I hear mechanic (metal to metal) sound when I put 1st gear and start to drive or when i change from 1st gear to the 2nd. The sound is also audible when I engage the rear gear ....
Anyone had similar problem? Went to the dealer on Tuesday and was told probably it is a differential problem - strange though - I am not a sporty type driver and the car has only 30 000 km. And of course waranty has finished in April...

so the update - took back the car from the dealer yesterday. eventhough it was out of waranty, they did not ask to pay for the parts and work i honestly did not expect this so even forgot to ask what have they done to the car - replaced the whole differential or only some parts.
with windows/doors closed do not hear or feel any sounds when driving. but if i open the window and engage 1st gear and drive off - i still hear some sound - but it does not sound odd or worrying
