I always use them if I can find them - because (in order of priority) :
- Have you ever tried to wah diesel off of your hands - It stinks and takes quite some shifting. Not great to smell like a trucker for the rest of the day.
- I dont want to get the grime from the pump handle all over the steering wheel
- oh and the health stuff that gb525dtour mentions

As a chemist, I really wouldn't want petrol on my hands either in an ideal world (benzene is also a carcinogen, plus a mutagen and a teratogen). I think the main difference is that petrol is very volatile, hence evaporates quickly. Diesel is a heavy oil, and does not evaporate (at least not like pertol).
So the dribbles on the nozzle creep down to the handle...

I always use the gloves. Diesel stinks. And I know, I have a trucking company and my office always smells like diesel.
The other thing is diesel spills on the floor. They stink up your mats for days.
