diesel fuel consumtpion
#1
Is anyone dissatisfied with their fuel consumption ? Particularly referring to 525 diesel (manual or auto). My 525auto is giving 36 mpg with 90% of miles on clear motorway
Urban driving it will drop to 20mpg or lower. only using autobox setting
Any comments?

Is your OBC set to read out in US or UK MPG? (I'm assuming you are in the UK)Check it out in the main i-drive menu by pushing the controller down the looking at vehicle settings and measurement units.

My Ride: 535D Sport Auto
My 535d will go down to around 24-26 round town and 34 on the m'way. My average since I had the car is around 28mpg (never reset it).
I think thats good considering I floor it wherever I can.

My Ride:
Well I've done 750 miles since last Friday in my brand new 525-E61-manual and have returned an average of 36mpg (yes I have altered the OBC) - I was thinking this was low but put it down to my baby still being in diapers.
Compared with my previous ride - Volvo S80 - D5 manual 2.4 5 cylinder diesel I am disappointed as she returned 49.5mpg week in, week out. Mind you as I don't pay for fuel I couldn't give a sheet.
So far I have to be honest and say that the Volvo engine is smoother and more economical - but, it's not in a beemer with all that other kit!!
Next time I will ignore the tax implications and get the 530 ... (*Must do better*)

I have a manual 525d (UK) and average 38.1 MPG regularly over long periods. Driving is a mix of motorway (80%) and urban (20%). If I try I can get 43MPG on motorway only trips with no passengers and a light load.
Just got back from a week in Norway (Manchester - Newcastle - 1 week in Norway (Bergen area) - Newcastle - Manchester) and averaged 37.1 MPG

I've done 8000 miles so far. Still averaging 35MPG overall. Getting 550-600 miles to a tank. That's with a mix of motorway driving, slow M25 in the morning and faster when able. As well as local driving, with plenty of times when I enjoy the 3.0 performance.
I'd be miffed if a 2.5 was only getting the same economy.

I normally avg about 29 in city type driving, but I've noticed the last few weeks it's dropped to about 27. The only time I've gotten over 30 is on trips, but never close to 35. Are you guys leaving your AC on all the time?
