The 535d is not sold in the US. Did you test drive it in Europe or did you test drive the 335d?
I test drove a 535d and bought my 535i in Europe.

Not as much fun as test driving the M5 in Europe

The salesperson was lining up some potential clients around the time I was making my decision on which 5er I wanted. She had the M5 for a week and knew I had some slight interest in it so she set me up with a test drive.

Words can't describe driving it on the A-bahn and not having to worry about a speed limit

After the test drive I knew there was no way I could own one. Not so much because of the cost as it was the disappointment in not being able to drive it the same way in the U.S. since I had already made the decision to relocate to ATL.

The NYC area members seem to love theirs on our meets.

I've actually met a Dr. who owns one when I was at the dealership in ATL. First question I asked was how fast he got to drive it - he said 150mph on I-85 and then shook his head while admitting it wasn't very smart. I laughed.

I don't knock anyone for owning one here in the U.S. Its just my personal feeling (and brief experience) that the M5 is at its best when you can let it fly and to do that you need good roads, no restrictions, and drivers that know how to get out of the passing lane when you flash them. You just don't have that here.

I hear you on that. That's why I like to organize meets to rural areas with few cars and few LE -- like the rapidly approaching September 19th meet. Hitting it too hard in the more populated areas in a 550 is very stressful.

I kinda doubt they will bring one on the E60 , mainly due to BMW NA having to give $4500 just to get the E90 and X5s off the lots.

Until the "Eco" credit ( lets be honest it's Trunk Money) came out the dealers were having very hard time moving them...
Now most dealers can't get or only got 1 ( total of 289 2010 x5 with Diesels for the first allotment in US) for this coming model year as to not get stuck with them.

I know people in the NE will say they sold well, but every place else the did not, reason being , cost more than the Gas motor by a couple grand, BMW was giving crappy finance rates ( and still is) , and Diesel fuel for the most part right now is more expensive than gas.

All that along with the econ slow down = slow sales....= $4500 advertised cash back on a new BMW till the end of today.
