My Ride: 2007 550i black/black 2004 545i alpine white with sport package - automobile heaven

So I have an 07 550i and it is still under warranty of course. Last week I started the car and it died immediately after. I have comfort access and the keys were in my pocket at the time. I wasn't too alarmed as I thought perhaps I didn't press the Start button all the way in or something of the sort. Last night I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and when I come out to start the car, it dies. I started it again right after and everything was fine just like the other time. It was probably about 40 degrees outside if that makes any difference. Any ideas? I will be taking the car in after the holidays when I have more time.

Also last week when it was about 30 degrees outside, I started the car up and after driving away for about 30 seconds it said "Steering! Please stop Carefully" Everything drove fine and when I started it again later that night I didn't receive any errors. I did some searches on here and a few have said it might be the steering fluid that is low so I plan on checking that out too.

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what's going on with my car. It's a little frustrating not knowing if my car is going to start properly and having these warning lights come up...

Also while I'm talking about everything that has been going on with the car. Occasionally going at very slow speeds(5-10mph) when I push the accelerator I hear what can be described as a gargling sound coming from the front of the car. Its' very strange. Its not metal rattling or the exhaust I know. It only happened a few times that I know of and I usually have the music on so I probably wouldn't hear it if it did happen more. Other people in my car have noticed the noise as well. Any thoughts on that one?

I would say that there's nothing much to worry about but you should take the car for a check up.

Didn't know it can get freezing in Dallas.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on taking it to the dealer in the new year when things aren't so busy. Yeah it happens. The weather in Texas is crazy. Last week it was almost 80 degrees one day and 30 something the next. It was funny because people were wearing short sleeve shirts on that day and the temperature dropped 40 degrees in one hour.

So that's pretty unusual for the kind of weather you're having in TX. Startup issues indicate potential problems with several key components. Perhaps the battery is not holding enough of a charge to crank over the engine. The starter motor could have issues or the alternator may not be charging the car up enough.

I park my 545i outside in Michigan - it's been 0F here the past few days - and have never had issues with startup. I suggest you take it in to Classic or wherever you go to for diagnostics. Somethings not right here IMHO...

I have the same symptom. Drive your car at 20mph with rpm@1000 and note if it "gurgles".
If it happens, please tell me what your SA says and if there's a fix. It could hazardous as there's really no power when it's "gargling".
I got an '07 550 too.

Happy Holidays!

Sixcard, I suspect you and I would be friends if we ever had the chance to meet in person!

I'm glad someone actually knows what I'm talking about. When I get a chance to drop the car off at the dealership and get a diagnosis on everything I'll let you know what they say.
