Well, I'm 150 miles from hitting the big 50K and the $3375 dollar question is do I get the extended warranty or not? I love my car but this is a lot of money and really bad timing on my part, (specially during the holidays with 4 kids!) I'll do the maintainence myself saving another $1750+. Since it's paid off, It may be easier to trade for something new just to keep my cash flow and wife happy. What to you think?

You either get the extended waranty or get another car. These cars are to high tech to do without the warranty protection!!! Probablly the reason no BMW dealer sells any used cars without them being CPO.

Well, the dealer also earns more profit with the CPO. As does BMW.
Logically, you won't come out ahead with the warranty, because those are profit items. But like any insurance, a warranty can make sense because it limits downside risk.
I've been working on providing repair rate data for the E60, but too few owners have signed up to participate so far. In general I think people overestimate repair rates.
Details on the research:
Auto reliability research -- need more E60s!
