Finally got my delivery date from the lease Company yesterday,

The bad news is that they are quoting the middle of September! It has already been six weeks since the order was placed, so I was hoping for early September at the latest when the the new number plates are issued.

On the plus side, if they deliver in mid September is there a chance I could get the upgraded 2.0d engine??? Does anyone have any views on how long it takes following production to get the cars to the UK and when the new engine production starts?

Views would be welcomed!

Hmmm... a mid-September delivery to YOU. Means about a week earlier to reach these shores.

If you're REALLY lucky AND they start new engine production rollout on the 1st of September the it COULD just happen.

Are you "empowered" enough to find out what the heck is going on and exert some influence, insisting thet the new car should have the new engine?

Any production date that far in the future can still be entirely changed.

I am going to see what I can do, If I can get them to delay production by a few weeks then that might make all the difference. Do BMW have an August shut down for holidays, is that why it is taking so long?

Not sure if they entirely shut down (though I know some manufacturers do, particularly in France) but they undertake an element of retooling of the production line for the new Model Year including, I suppose, the new 520d engine - so we can but live in hope...

I am waiting to place an order for the new 520d. My lease expires in 2 weeks and the leasing company says BMW dealers are not yet taking orders (there is a small price increase, so you might be able to tell from the invoice).

I would strongly recommend holding off, especially if it is a company car as the BIK tax rate will be 18% (vs 22%) from next April.

I would propose waiting as well, I am also ordering the same car. After checking on here and confirming with my dealer, the new 520d will begin production on week 36, that is mid August, so you may end up with the last of the old series engine. Based on the emissions of the new engine ~140/kg as opposed to current 158/kg (currently in the 320d coupe), I calculated a tax saving of ?50 per month for myself, which is quite a large amount over 36 month lease! My dealer is apparently placing the order today, although pricing has not been confirmed as there systems were apparently only changed yesterday. The lease price of course is based on the residue value after the 3 year lease, so even with a small increase in purchase cost, it may or maynot effect the contract hire. I have been informed that I will not see my car until late September at the earliest, may even be in October, unfortunately a price I need to pay............. Don't forget you also get a new gearbox and 177hp as opposed to 163hp.........
