Hey Gang

I was just curious if this was normal. When I first bought the e60 I noticed that when I alarm the car from the key-the doors lock and then a second or 2 later I hear the alarm churp. This delay was not on my previous X5. In the x5 the car would alarm and churp at the same time as I walked away. I find this delay annoying and when I asked the sales person about it, he said that they all do that...

I can't think of a reason why this delay would make sense....

thanks
Gene

Normal and yes, it's different from the older BMWs.

The only reason I can think of is that some "processing" has to take place and the computer processor isn't running at lightning speeds...

You can turn the chirp on or off inside the settings menu of iDrive...

I believe the chirp is off by default for UK spec. The dealer could probably turn the option back on though

I too would like the option of a chirp. The door locking on the new e60/61 is near silent so an audible confirmation would be good. It wasnt really necessary on the previous e39 as you could hear the clunk of the door locks.

I can't find any option on the i-drive for an audible warning. The only options on mine is to have the indicators blink (or not) when locking (or unlocking) the doors.

Sorry guys, I guess it's a UK thing. I didn't realize that the chirp was disabled there -- I'm about 99% sure we can turn ours on or off...

I can't remember. I just want to know if its a churp or a chirp. Whatever, my US car ch.rp's. I like it as well as the delay. The delay makes the ch.rp more interesting--as in did my key-button push take or not?
Sorry, I couldn't add anything of significance.
