This may seem like a rudimentary question from a new owner, well...maybe because it is.

I'd love the iDrive to automatically set itself to a map view on the left side and something else, maybe a trip computer, on the right side--every time I drive by default. If I do anything else like switch audio sources it'd be especially nice if, immediately afterward, the screen switched back to the original map default.

I don't want to have to initiate a series of twists and clicks every time I get in the car, just to get my preferred info and avoid having the hideous iDrive menu staring me in the face.

Sorry if this is overly-simple, but does anyone know how to set it up?

assuming you already brought up the menu you wanted in nav and radio, then next time just hold down the down direction for that last radio screen, or hold down right direction for that last nav screen.

But will I still have to reenter the "default" setting whenever I start up the car?

If Map/OBC was the last display selected under the NAV menu, then pushing the I-Drive controller left and holding for a few seconds will bring this back up, without having to go all through the menus to select it. As mentioned above, the push and hold short cut works in all menus, and takes you to what you last selected in each. Not perfect by any stretch, but of some help

Peter, on US cars it would be to the right instead of the left. I'm guessing it's because of the difference in the driver position between UK and US.

Thanks for the help! I'd sit down in the cockpit with the manual and figure all this out myself but the car rings bells to nag me if I insert the key without starting the engine and I don't want to start it in the garage for an iDrive study session and gas myself out.
