With me not understanding USA marketing mixes, can someone please clarify which element of this car is "sport"? Is it the suspension?

With the sport package, the 528i and 535i get sport suspension, ARS, 18-inch 124 wheels and tires, comfort seats, shadowline trim and sport steering wheel. The 528xi and 535xi get the seats, trim and steering wheel only.
The 550i sport package gets all of the above except the sport suspension is "retuned" (BMW's word, not mine), the wheels are 19-inch 172s, the aero package is included and the exhaust system is upgraded to include a throatier sound and extended exhaust tips.

I'll take a crack at it.

The 550i sport package is equivalent to the M-sport in Europe.

Don't think so - different suspension - no Dynamic Drive (ARS) in EU on MSport and the suspensions are at different heights IIRC).

After looking at these pictures, the pun comes to mind about this car being "out standing in its field."
