So what do I do guys, 530D or XD; order now for delivery mid March, or hang on for the updated model and take delivery in July?

Consider the 535d instead of the 530d or you might have regrets. Whether or not to get x-drive depends on what kind of weather you get where you live. We don't have the option of x-drive in Ireland and if it were available, I would go for it (I used to drive a Quattro and it was great in the rain).

Regarding ordering now or waiting for the facelift...
If you can afford to wait then you really should. The facelift will probably refine the current look and improve quality across the board. Also remember a facelift would have a higher value when it is time to trade in.

In SW France I would imagine blizzards are a little rare.

I would go for the 530D, or better still the 535D and be very tempted to wait for the facelift unless you get a substantial discount.

Yeah, wait for the facelift, definitely.

If you're a sporty driver, go for the 535d. The turbolag in the 530d is highly annoying. If you don't floor it all the time, take the 530 or 525.
Don't bother with the x, safety-wise it means hardly anything as the DSC will correct long before you should have.
Unless you drive a lot in snow, there is no point, imho of course.
