I completely disagree. We need big engines in US much more than they need them in Europe. It is not about speed. It is about acceleration. When you drive in Europe you are mostly surrounded by cheap European and Korean junk. There is no 3.5 liter Camry or Lexus IS in Europe. There is no Acura TL or G35. Not to mention Cadillacs and Town Cars with their big V8s. A car like BMW 520 may feel adequate in Europe but would embarrass its owner in US. Any car can go 120 mph but not any can get to 100 mph in 12 sec. I would never spend $65K on a car nowing that it is slower that $22K Camry.
absolutely ... of course i want them to know i dont drive a cheap ass 730d... ooops i have one of those too

Hi All,

I am going to be dropping my car off to the dealer to get my battery replaced and to have a load test done to ensure my alternator is ok.

Link about my battery issue:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=31449

I was also considering having them debadge my 545i while it is at the dealer.

Just curious what others opinions are of a debadged 545i. Initially, I didn't want to debadge it; however, after seeing a few debadged E60 in person it looks great! Also, I think it gives it that very clean look. Thanks in advance!
debadge and if you listen to them tell me if you want some HAMANN roundels too

Have you ever been to Europe?

You can't run a car with a 3.5 litre V8 in most of Europe, unless you're very wealthy. In the UK, petrol is ~?1 per litre. That's $7 per US gallon. If that doesn't get you, punitive taxes based on Co2 emissions will.

WRT acceleration; are you seriously suggesting a Cadillac or Town car could out-drag a 1.9 litre turbocharged diesel Skoda?

I hope you're posting with your tongue firmly in your cheek, otherwise you come across as a fool.

FN reg tax is also more on bigger cars, also on HP!

they do not know in USA what the toruque of a diesel can do

All this talk about debadge. Any DIY tips on how to do it without damaging the paint?

Wow...! Its sad that debadging is such an issue !!!

I recently got a 530 in Carbon Black with M-Sport pack and 19" 172 wheels....the car looks incredible!

When I drive around, I get a lot of looks...people will pull up to me at the lights and roll down windows just to comment on my car.....I've seen people with their eyes glued to my car as I pass them by in the street..!!!

But here's the catch !!!!

Way too many times, people have mistaken my car for an M5 or 550 (those who are not very familiar with BMWs and model differences) and when they get around the back and see the 530 badge, they'll make a comment like "oh....its a 530 !!!!"

I recently pulled up in a mall parking lot....a few guys were standing on the sidewalk chatting....as I drove up one of the guys says to his friends: "wow....check out that car" all his friends turn around and stare at me as I slowly drove by....by the time I pass them and they're looking at the backside of my car, I hear: "ahhh...man...its only a 530..."

So there you have it...my 530 isn't good enough !!! I guess I'm too broke and pathetic to buy a real car!!!

lol...well, what can you do! I love my car.....a 550 or M5 was out of my price range.....and with all the stuff I have on my car it still cost me some good money....but I feel the need to debadge...I feel like I need to hide the fact that I couldn't afford a 550 or M5 !!! !!! At the end of this lease I'm getting a Ferrari...no debadging there !!!!

And by the way...debadge a 545...? why its not like you're driving a pathetic 530 or something !!!

nwilliams, i can appreciate your comments because i have a 530 as well. those same people that say, "it's only a 530" wouldn't/couldn't tell the diff between a debadged 525/530/545/550/M5 etc anyways. i'd think if you had an M5 and put 550 on it they would be just as clueless.

i debadged purely for the clean look. i've said before that if, dare i say "when", i have an M5, i'd debadge it too.

Absolutely agree! "When" I get my M5, it will be nekkid as well or I might even slap on a 530i badge.

Did you know in Europe you can buy a BMW with tweed / cloth seats and roll down windows? It’s all in the marketing. In Japan, a Chrysler 300 is like a Benz 600, because it’s a foreign auto. When I lived in Seoul, my friend had his Camaro shipped over; people thought it was a Ferrari. He picked up so many materialistic girls with a freaking CAMARO! It’s all in the marketing.

SOOOO... if you do debadge, start calling your machine a BMV as well. While buying a part at BMW Staarbrucken Germany a few weeks ago, I was politely informed by a visiting Alpina rep and a BMV serviceman, that BMW is how Americans pronounce the auto. The correct pronunciation is BMV. If you tell someone in Germany you drive a BMW, they'll ask you what the hell is that.

BMW markets badges to US American's because the entire world knows we love labels that say "mine is better than yours." Some buy $120 jeans that are made on the same loom and with the same material as a pair of $19 Wal-Mart jeans. Some people say the cucumber taste better than the pickle.

Mine is not better or worst than anyone’s because it’s a 525. Its mine, it’s an individual. Hmm... Do you think that is why BMV named an entire division BMV Individual! How genius. Those people at BMW are kinda smart, you think?

N Williams, what were those guys driving around? Probably not Bimmers. A true BMV enthusiast will appreciate all BMV's. Do you think a true art collector looks at a Divinci and says, "well, it not the Mona Lisa. It’s JUST some sketches of a balloon."

BMW's are a piece of art. My friend drives a MB 600 (12V!!). When he drove my car one day, he was grinning and laughing. He was like; this car is fun to drive. (I've got a few mods).

Debadge them all! That way only true BMW enthusier's know what we are driving - and trust me, they don't care. And if you DO care about what the top, right hand side of your trunk says about your entire car!!!, then you should probably be driving a Mercedes with one of the little rat Paris Hilton dogs in a Louis Vuitton dog bag with a diamond collar. You should be wearing some over priced clothes with a Rolex and some gay Italian driving shoes in some smelly french colonge. LOL.

What's the difference between a Bentley and a Rolls? A Rolls, you are driven in, a Bentley you drive. A Mercedes is for someone whose in business, a BMW is for someone who means business.

I drive a BMW 525. I buy my clothes at Wal-Mart. I wear a G-Shock Timex. But take a look at my 1099 at year end, and its ALL good, baby!

Again, just shut up and drive.

*** This is an excerpt from my manifesto! I could never get away with this in some MB site *** I love my Bimmy people!!!
