So I blew out one of my rear tires. 10,600 miles, needed new skin anyway. shopped around for OEM replacement SpotContact2 - 275/30/19. Dealer had the best deal for me. installed today.

I pick up car, notice it isn't as stable as before. a little wandering on the road, not very BMW sport package like. notice the size on tires didn't sound right. look at paperwork, see they installed 285/35/19. paperwork says also installed 275/30/19. so, couple questions:

1. is this standard BMW replacement now?
2. is there any benefit to these larger tires?
3. rubbing? etc?

any other thoughts? should I go back to dealer and ask what's up?

Don't know whether BMW changed spec, but I doubt changing one tire to a different size is a good choice. If anything, replace both (front or rear) with the new size. Not an expert by any means but a different size tire on either side of the car should affect ride and handling. The 550 Sports Package has a staggered set-up, different size tires in the front and rear.

Looks like someone screwed up and didn't tell the customer again -- or it couldn't have been an honest mistake .

1. I wouldn't think so. Standard 19" tires would be 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 (or if you went with 285, it should be 285/30/19)
2. It might give a little more rim protection, but your tire series/diameter is off with the fronts.
3. Can't answer without knowing your rim width and offset.

What's your tire size on the fronts? Personally, I would take it back and insist they install the correct tire size for the rears.

stock car all around. 172's, no spacers. OEM tires on front, 245/35/19. i noticed immediately the sidewall was wider than last set. I will return to dealer and find out what happened. I'm wondering however, if this would make the car wander like that? they also did a ISTA/P update, could have changed active steering ratios again? feels more cadillac like.

The additional sidewall height in the rears could contribute to this, (in a cushy sort of way).
But I'll let others chime-in ...

That won't work. You'll get exactly what your feeling. Take it back and have it replaced ASAP.

so you have 2 different size tires in the rear?
that would definetly cause it to drive weird.

no, same sizes left and right, not same size as oem though, or what was ordered.

So now I'm confused. Warning, it may be the second scotch! A 2008 550 has a staggered setup, same size on two front tires, same size on two rears. What tires are a different size? Sounds like either way, one end (front or rear) has a different size tire on either side...
