Maybe you can contact Simon (Nomis_Nehc) about the Ipod retrofit and reprogramming he's an expert and lives in SoCal.

I'm not sure if it is the same thing, but I got my iPod interface on Ebay for $13. Mine is a 2008 5-series.

I paid for 420 total for the hardware and install at the dealer. I know I got a good price but I'm not sure that I would do it again as I think the way it sorts music is poor.

Well, the way I understand it supposed to work is that sorts the audio files by track, artist, album, books etc. - however it doesn't work that way...it seems to use a random sorting process using the categories of MP3-1, MP3-2, all the way up to MP3-6. It does however use the standard Ipod playlists - 90's music, Recently added, Recently played, etc...I tend to just use them when I want to find something. Not the most efficient method but it gets the job done.
