I paid 450 for the adapter with installation so it sounds like your getting screwed. Many people claim that if you have the CDC now, the iPod adapter is just plug and play. No coding required.

I bought it and had it installed by the dealer which cost me $800 here in Toronto, but that also included coding. So yes it has to be coded, now if your CDC can play MP3's then I understand that there is no coding for MP3 required. Not sure if the device itself needs to be coded to function.

Mine only had the CDC with no MP3 capabilities or anything. I am really happy with my iPod interface though.

Coding is required or not depends upon your car's software level. If you car can play MP3 from front cd dash then its simple plug and play with very minimal coding.

I would suggest to use Dension gateway if you have CCC, its easy diy, its much better quality and supports music play from USB too.

The dealer. Cain BMW. The iPod interface was listed on BMWs website with price for parts and installation. Called the dealer and they did it. On my 545 I put it in myself and took about 15 minutes total including taking out my CDC.

Sounds like the standard charge. I was quoted ~800 for unit, install, and coding.

I think there are some members here that do the coding for you as well.

iPod interface for 2005 and later 5 Series runs about $320.

Provide your VIN to the BMW Center when requesting a quote or purchasing.

My iPod interface for MOST, part 65 11 0 036 448, cost $250, not including installation or MP3 activation.
