Friday, I went out to start my car and nothing happened. So I decided to jump start it with cables. It eventually started, but nothing worked on the car. It had just about every fault flashing on the screen. Transmission fault, battery fault, ABS fault, and more. There was a black (blank) idrive screen, idrive knob just spun around no clicks. When shifting the car into reverse or drive it would slam into gear. I had to floor the accelerator to make the car move 2mph. Needless to say I had to have the car flatbed towed to the dealer. Dealer just said it was a dead battery, most likely from the extreme hot summers in Phoenix. Everything seems fine now. But why would you not be able to jump start the car and then drive it, isn't that a little crazy? If it didn't happen at home, I could have been stranded somewhere. The service rep said, that is what happens when the battery is completely drained, the car basically shuts down. I had no warning from the car that the battery was draining.

Yup thats right... thats what happens... your case seems to the extreme end of it... but when you do jump start the E60 things happen... lots of things will need to be reset by the dealer.
On a side not... I would NOT recommend you use your E60 to jump any other car... you'll prob end up creating a ton of faults too.

Yeah, I know what you just went through. I had the exactg same problem...though I was able to drive the car, without active steering. I just had the car re-initiated at the dealer...I'm assuming they updated my computer because the graphics are slightly different. The dealer kept my car overnight to make sure the battery wasn't draining again...they never told me what made it drain previously...I don't think they know. The only other annoyance is that the steering wheel is well off-center to the left and now I have to have it aligned again.
