A few months back I responded with an incorrect answer to how the DRL work with the light switch set to Auto. Then I thought the Xenon's would be on all the time because the day I made the test was slightly overcast. I just discovered this is not true. My car was programmed for DRL by the dealer which is the only way they can be programmed. If you leave the light switch in the off position the two inside halogen lights are on at what looks like reduced voltage. If you turn the switch to Auto and it is bright sunlight, the two inside lights come on the same as when the switch is in the off position. If you drive into darkness, the xenons come on at full intensity. When you return to bright sunlight, the xenons turn off and the two inside lights come on again. It does not take much of an overcast condition for the xenons to come on when the switch is set to auto. Now, this is how I thought they should work!

The "angel eyes" are on when you switch to parking lights, but iif you have DRL programmed, then the two inside halogen lights are also on. If the ignition is off, then they are on. I imagine that if DRL is not programmed then the angel eyes will be on when the switch is turned to parking lights when the ignition is on. Angel eyes were a concern in the original post.

If the switch is on auto -- will the angel lights come out when it is dark?

Amigo525, mine only work as I described. If you want Angel Eyes on, set the switch to parking lights. Your 525 and mine are close in age!

sorry for reviving an old thread but does anyone have pics of the angel eyes with DRL activated. I'm thinking about activating DRL for my car.

My angel eyes are always on. Either with the daytime running or Xenon's. My switch is in the auto mode.

You don't - for '05/'06 e60 your dealer will have to turn them on for you. My early production date '07 also had the DRL's turned on by the dealer. Even with a Progman update the option is not accessible thru idrive

My Nov 2003 530iSE (with 2006 s/w) has the option to turn on DRL in iDrive- different markets?
