Interesting, when did you last update the software on your 545? Maybe the load they did for the iPod install was not a complete update hence the lack of DRL option in my iDrive.
The update for my Ipod install was not the complete software revision. It was just a partial process.

In california, I think DRL's are pointless. But that is my honest opinion. I hate it when it on. and when it is dusk or you need it, simply turn on parking lights with fogs, and its sufficient.

I am not 100% sure - but believe it is illegal in many states to drive at night with parking lights on (and without main headlights) - that was drilled into my brain way back when during my first driving classes - Parking lights are designed to tell that a car is..... yes.... "PARKED". Having fog lights on probably doesn't satisfy the legal equivalent of "headlights"...

And +1 on a car with DRLs or full headlights being significantly more visible to other drivers - this is a big safety aspect I think, especially in those situations where location / angle / time-of-day makes glare of sun or reflections really difficult. I don't use them only in my RX-7 in daytime good weather because the pop-up headlights really detract from the sexy good lines of the chariot IMO...LOL

What about using the new brighter Angel eyes for DRL for older e60's? Anyone know if this will work?
I have been wondering the same question. Can Angel lights ONLY be turned on as running lights ? '04 530i (with 25. up date)

We call them parking lights here too -- except that's not exactly what I'm talking about. On the side of the rear light housings, there are four or five (or something close to that) small red LEDs. If only those are lit (and nothing else in the rear) then I wouldn't call that "parking lights" -- side marker lights, maybe, but not parking lights...
Today, I realized that I wasn't correct before when I said that only those small red LEDs were lit with the DRLs. The rear parking lights are illuminated with the DRLs.

Is this old news and am I just now noticing something that's common or is this something new?

I believe it may be a case of the former, Rudy. My tail lights always come on when my DRLs are on. Granted, my car is a pre-LCI but I guess that if the older card are behaving that way, the newer ones probably are too.

I always thought DRL's only illuminated in the front -- that's how it is with most cars over here. I never had DRL's activated until my LCI because I never felt they looked very good (and I never was able to activate/deactivate them myself...)

Rudy, two weeks ago I had my DRL's activated at my dealer. My fronts are on but not the rears.

Can anyone with CIP 26 in the U.S. tell us if DRL's are selectable in the iDrive?
I have V26 and DRL is not selectable. The same thing happened to me during a dealer visit, I had to have them turn them on at the next visit.

And up until now, that's the way I've always thought BMW did DRL's -- front only. Now, with the LCI, it seems as if they've included rear lights as well.

Then again, this new feature could just be a software bug...
