I have DRLs set on my 2001 530i...the dealer had to do it. Basically, it is the high beams running at 30% power. They are on when the car is on but no other lights are on (lows, highs, parking, etc.).
I was reading carefully in the 2005 manual and they claim for DRLs, you should put the switch all the way to the right (3 positions I think?...I forget) to mimic DRLs but, IMO, these are not true DRLs. I don't recall any such setting in my menu but now I am anxious to look further...when my car arrives in May some time.... :'(

The DRL switch on the E60 is on the i-drive Menu Mcfly. Why don't you wait until you get your car re-delivered stateside before you start w/ your dumb questions
?

I don't have any user adjustable DRL settings but it's possible that a newer version of software added it for specific countries. Clearly, KYRIACOS said he now has this feature in 16.1 so anything's possible at this point.
I'm pretty sure DRLs are required in Canada so that would be one place where they might not add the feature. Does BMW have different versions of CIP software for US & Canada or do they have one version for North America? Maybe the dealer can grey out that setting in iDrive for Canadian cars or something?
