I have my headlight setting switch set to "A" (dial knob turned all the way to the left -little green light on)to autodetect day or night in order to automatically turn on or off my headlights. It was working fine then it got a thorough detailing -wash. After that lights just stayed on no matter day or night while in "A" mode. The lights do turn off and on manually and all other settings work-fog light mode, etc. If I go back into "A" mode the headlights still come on.
Can someone tell me where the sensor is for this and what I need to check? Fuses, sensor, maybe I'm just doing something wrong in the "A" position switch? Is there prehaps a reset? Thanks.

To my knowledge, the 545i does not have a daytime running lights (DRL) setting. So, I believe your problem stems from the detail job doing something to the sensor making the system believe it is dark enough to turn on the lights. Unfortunately, I cannot help you locate the sensor in question. Hopefully someone else knows the location.

Day Time Running lights are running fine so I'm not sure what setting DTR would have to do with getting the "Autodetect" day/night feature running.
The other gentlement is correct, the 04 545i does not have the DTR light settings in iDrive. I had to have that set at the shop. My DTR lights run fine.
I think the sensor is bad, in "auto" mode the car thinks its dark all the time thereby turning on my lights. I need to find this sensor or something else that could be related. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks so far.

FYI: Found the day light sensor. It is on the inside of the car - Center of front dash toward windshield, little black knob. Some might mistake it for alarm but we all know that's on the mirror.
Anywho...fixed it.

Thanks for the correction and links. After reading through all three I think I'm just screwed. I have the latest software, etc. and I still have the issues many have described. Just sux because I love my car.
I am going to try some of the setting tricks I read. Only because it was working fine until I lost battery. Not sure how this would affect the daylight sensor settings but perhaps.
