Did a search and found this mentioned one or twice but no firm resolution I could find. My '04 E60 has no navigation and the 6 disc player in the glove box, which works fine. The single in dash player has been acting up for a while now, though only sporadically. It makes that TATATATATA sound and won't play a CD. Usually I have to stop and re-start the car but somtimes that doesn't resolve the issue. Next time I start the car it will work fine. It was working fine this morning.

The car is now at the dealer for the squeaking brakes, rear brake replacement and microfilter replacement. I mentioned the CD issue to the service adivsor who said something about opening a PUMA case for the problem. I know others have had this problem, just curious what was found and how was it resolved. Was the player replaced? Is it a software issue? My car has something like CIP 18 which was done back in July 2005 to resolve the transmission slam issue.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Are you using a commercial CD or one that you burnt?

If commercial, I'm thinking you have a finicky player...

Yes Rudy, a commercial CD. Just was curious if the likely outcome was a new CD player or some software patch. Or better yet, I could trade in the car as down payment for the Carbon Black M5 they have on the showroom floor...

It seemd like the CD player is getting out of alignment. If your car "co-operates" so you can replicate the fault while at the dealer they should replace the CD player.

No joy on that so far, working perfectly! <_<

I've had two M-Ask units replaced because of this issue, both times those were commercial CDs and a shame to loose (CD was not returned). Same issue, CD won't eject (Even after shutting down and re-start). Now the unit I currently have has started doing this again (Twice so far, last one this past weekend) but the shutting down and starting again has worked so far.

Interesting, though I've been lucky enough to never have a situation where teh CD won't eject. Let me ask you, with the M-ASK unit, do you know have the ability to play MP3's? As the owner of another 2004, I've been disappointed in the inability of my old car to get this functionality...

Hi!

I had exactly the same issue in my 525d from 2005. Local dealer changed the CD-player and updated CIP (in warranty),
no problems after that. Mine did this TATATATATA sound especially, when I leaved car for 5...60 minutes,
very seldom when parked her overnight.

I assume this solved the problem for you?

This is exactly what I'm experiencing! No jams, just the occasional non-play, sometimes with a message on iDrive that "Medium Cannot Be Read". Guess I'll be getting a new CD player. Was kind of holding out hope for Wiu-Bimmer's solution (new M-ASK unit) with the possible added benefit of picking up MP3 capability.

Edit: This reply only applies to US Specs, no Nav, early production date E60s (Up to 03/2005 I believe)
Unfortunately no MP3 funtionality added with new M-Ask unit, sorry. Yep big bummer.
The M-Ask unit that we have is BMW part number 65126942521, that is the unit that BMW service will replace your unit with (In my case twice already).
The M-Ask unit that the E60s that can play MP3 have is 65126942520 (At least this holds for US Specs E60s), there is a note on this part number that reads: ATTENTION: NOT MP3-COMPATIBLE UNTIL 03/2005.
You can check it out in http://www.realoem.com/

All I got was my settings deleted and a CD player that ejects CDs (And a CIP update)
