This damn Sat Nav is doing my head in...

You're right, I'll shut up about it until I've tried another disc. It could be that they've mis-encoded the average speed on the A1 as 100mph and that is why it is nearly always used. Except that it would be reflected in wildly optimistic journey times. Damn, I'll shut up.

On my browser at least, some of your images illustrating your point are no longer showing up.

V.strange. Mine too. The code is there so I can only assume that those two images have been deleted from the host.
Edit: I can see them now... Maybe the server you are storing them at is slow and the forum software timeout.

We don't know the facts of course. May be 2 miles into a new tank. (or is that the "other computer" where the consumption can be reset indepently and reflects that consumption on the rev counter display).

I observed but (unusually) declined to comment.
- I wondered how you dint spot that
Could be - Nevermind - do explain this as I thought the 520d would give MUCH more per gallon than that

What amuses me is when I have the SatNav on for a route I know well. I ignore its recommended turnings and continue amidst all its prostestations. Each time, it sulkily recalculates the ETA and low and behold, another 10 minutes disappear from the expected journey time.
God knows where it takes me when I don't know where I'm going.
Bl**dy useless.

I use my NAV as a reference only - just to let me know where I am if I didn't know.
It comes in handy also when there is an accident or a traffic backup and I need to see an alternate road to take.

The concensus appears that the Nav is frequently regarded as inaccurate although some people don't have problems with it there are clearly some people that don't trust it.
32.8 mpg is justified by the fact that the 520d is gutless and must be ragged senseless to make meaningfull progress. Once rolling, it is ok, acceleration on mine falls down well short of BMWs claims. It has been back twice now for tweaking and a new turbo. I will leave it until the new year when hopefully the new Cip will cure the Turbo of its EGR Valve troubles (Although in the cold air they are less evident). As an aside I drove an old school 3 series with the 150BHP 2.0litre diesel today (to try and find an oil leak). OK the car is smaller, but those Euro III diesels pulled much better from 1k to 2k revs. I find the same thing comparing a VW group 1.9 with a 2.0 diesel. I've also been using BP ultimate in an attempt to improve engine performance, although I can't really detect a difference. It isn't really an issue because its a company car, so I reduced the BIK tax by taking the 2.0 litre and the company pays all fuel. Also I haven't done a brimfill check so the on-board computer could be talking $h1te, but it is definately UK Gallons.
I have the cleanest diesel exhaust pipe in the East Midlands though so Na na na na na......
