Damn Black Ice! Driving through Scarborough, UK, last night, went down a steep bank which formed a U bend at the bottom, where the road went back up another steep bank. Took the corner, so i was cornering to the left, dropped into third to pull up the hill, as it was struggling to pull in 4th. Got the biting point, put the revs on abit, turned the bend, powered out of the bend a little, and whoosh! the whole back end went out, spun me around, and left me at the side of the road absolutely crappin myself!
Didn't see the black ice, but it must have been like glass, cos i was no where near traveling too fast, bein really cautious with the inlaws and current miss robg520d in the car. Was extremely lucky, there was a stone wall on one side of the road and a steep drop on the other side of the road, and i didn't even clip the curb! Safe to say i've not been to church for a good 10 years, but I said my fair share of hail marys after that one!!
Anyone else experienced this kinda slip in an E60?

Phew! Close call!
Using my 550i as a daily driver here in Montreal.. it's always an adventure.
Anytime I hit the roads (especially this time of yr), it's all about proceeding with caution.. but like you explained, being careful & watching where you're going isn't always enough.. that junk sneaks up on you fast! It can make a religious man out of us, and quick! lol (ladies too)
I just try to keep it clean, and keep it city!

Can't avoid the wintery roads around these areas i'm afraid, wish i could, it'd be much more fun driving the rear wheel drive. The chime makes itself known regularly, just not when i actually need reminding lol

Bet that things like a loaded gun on ice. Yeah, was sooo glad i didn't scar her for life, i treated her the next day tho, a nice hot wash and wax and i'm hopin she's forgiven me!
Have phun!
Had exactly the same thing two winters ago except I was not as lucky as you. I dented just about every panel on my touring and took out a long fence.
I am now very careful, in temps from zero and avoid untreated roads. Was even thinking of professional skid training. Definitely changed my cold-weather driving style.
I was doing about 35mph the temp was showing zero degrees. Just drove over slight bump in road before dropping down a hill and wehey?.spun like a shopping cart down the hill on black ice.
It was a very interesting experience spinning, backwards downhill, on the wrong side of the road.
5 mins later another car lost it completely at speed and took out a row of fairly ornate fences made from painted white ?wagon-wheels?, ending up almost in the front door of a house. It was quite funny actually, almost surreal.
