I'm a big proponent of hand car washes but my car has been damaged from them too. Scratches and the such...not enough water or suds or whatever, guys trying to hurry, it's bound to happen unless you hand wash it yourself...Kinda tuff in Minny.

Ouch.

Schedule a face to face meeting with the manager of the wash. Have in hand the invoice of the rims and ask for a replacement of the rims. I hope you are right and there is no disclamer (posted in a visible place)the car wash is not responsible for the damages.

If all talks fail to resolution (and there is no disclaimer) then file a claim with the "small claims court". The car wash will possibly get back to you with a proposal to fix/replace the wheels to settle the case.

Good luck

BTW, try to make the car wash pay like how VT did, maybe they would budge if you argue with them. I hope you can get that repaired, or it gives you an excuse to sell those rims and maybe get some M6 real or replicas if you like them. I personally like them a lot. Looks really clean on a 5 series.

Let me think about this for a while....
OK.
HAND WASH.
I have had 4 BMWs...all awesome cars. I never sent any of them through a washing machine.
What does it take to wash your own car?
There are NO mechanical hand washing machines!
You get what you pay for.
Wash it your self and keep the $500 bucks.

just my $0.02

sorry to hear that man. it sucks. thats why when i go to car washes, like the guys here, i seriously tell them to hand wash it and not put it through the tunnel. ive even seen customers' cars come out with scratched wheels. either that or i wash the car myself. good luck with that.

Just go to a car wash and ask for a bucket wash. Done.

There's a lesson here... if you treasure your beloved e60, do not under any circumstance put it through a car wash... in addition make the time to do it manually on your drive... i'd rather have a dirty car than one thats been raped by an automated wash....

Sorry to see damaged wheels. I've always taken mine to the carwash without any problems, Then again, I see a lot of high-end cars going through the one by my house and I'm sure the owner knows what he could be liable for. The scary thing is when it's going down the line you can't even see the bottom of the tires!!! The manager showed me some special wheel gard on their system, so I guess its been working. The only damage on my wheels is from my poor judgement in parallel parking!

I did inflict some damage once though ...back in the day when I had a Caprice with big metal bumpers as I was pulling out the guy cleaning a brand new mini-van opened the drivers door, it caught my bumber and got all jacked up on it's hinge. The mini van owner saw the whole thing and got the carwash owner to admit fault.
