My Ride: 2008 550i Sport Package Cold Weather Package Navigation IPod Adapter Fold Down Rear Seats Clear Bra 35% Window Tint

Decided to take the 550i on a nice leisurely trip to Tucson yesterday. I wasn't even out of the neighborhood and some lady rear ends me at the first stoplight. I saw it coming - she was messing with her GPS and never fully stopped. I tried to move forward out of the way but had a car in front in me. She gets out of her vehicle, doesn't apologize, says there is no damage, and wants to drive off. I point out the damage and get her insurance info.

Any idea how much this is going to cost??

To fix it properly, a body shop will have to fill the dent and repaint the whole bumper. They can do a blend, but it most likely won't match. You're probably looking to spend about 200-300 on repair.

Rico , they have to "weld" the plastic bumper hole together, then sand, fill ,repaint etc. I would try the old "fill it with paint trick" 1st. Get a small paint stick from your dealer and keep adding paint to the hole until it is filled in and slightly higher than your bumper surface and then use a cutting compound on a cloth with a small flat piece of wood behind it to keep the abrasion surface flat . Patience and a little elbow grease will likely reward you with an acceptable result, you will need to use a finer finishing compound once you get the surface flat then a paint polisher ,you could add a clear coat as well but knowing the way people drive you might end up with a few of these nicks and ultimately want to get the whole thing re painted at some future time. Good luck

I was in a similar accident but my bumper looked worse. My insurance agent said if the cut does not go all the way through the plastic they normally do not replace the bumper. My bumper was repainted and it looks as good as new. The cost was $465 which was covered by the other driver's insurance.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the great words. Getting the first repair estimate tomorrow - some body shop recommended by lady's insurance company. Two more estimates to follow - one from the BMW Collision Center and other from a more reputable body shop.

is there more or am i seeing all the damage?? geeez that dimple is small... i would definately go the touch up paint route mentioned above instead of going through the whole hassle of involving insurance companies or body shops... i mean seriously... is it that big? is it that noticable? is it or will it be the only imperfection your car will have??? i could imagine the heartattack you'll have with a door ding

is it worth repainting the whole bumper and not getting the paint to match correctly? i dont think so.... but good luck on your "repair"
