Why don't you just retrofit a D2S kit if you're going to go aftermarket? It'll be much brighter and whiter...

Try this site...It has a schematic of the D1S bulb connections. Hope it helps.

http://www.xevision.com/hid_specifications.html

As far as I know, the D1S is a further developed D2S lamp. There is basically no difference in brightness or colour. The D1S has the same lamp as D2S but the ballast in build-in to the lamp (the square box) instead of being separated as in D2S.

The brightness or color would vary if you were comparing an aftermarket 50W D2S kit to stock D1S bulbs with aftermarket ballasts. As far as I know there is no 50W D1S solution which means that the higher you go on the kelvin scale with that D1S setup the more brightness you lose. When comparing the actual bulb to each other there is little difference other then the base (igniter) as you stated.
