D vs DS in 530D observation

In D, the revs are very closely related to the throttle position.
The slightest movement of your foot and the rev counter responds immediately. Take your foot off and the revs drop to idle almost immediately.
In DS the revs stay a lot higher between gear changes and also if you lift off as mentioned above the revs dont drop nearly as fast. So if you then put your foot down after having lifted off response is far more immediate as the turbo is still in its rev range, rather than haveing to spin up again after having dropeed to idle as in D mode.
Probably similar in the petrol cars but more important in the diesel beacuse of the turbo.

You're absolutly right, just lift the trottle for a microsecond, (in manual mode you can shift even) You'll notice the difference.
