This is for everyone that has 166 rims. As some of you might have already known, I got a curb rash on my rear right rim over the 4th of July holiday. I took it to Baron of Baron's BMW in San Diego that is doing some mods on my car and asked them if they could fix it. They told me they would outsource the work to a rim shop.

I dropped my car off exactly one week ago today. My mods were completed in one day. The rim is still being worked on today. The rim shop is having a hard time color matching. That is the primary reason for the delay. So, I called West Coast Specialties (WCS) where I got my 166s and M-Tech Aero Kit done. I spoke with the manager if he can get me a new rim. I told him why I needed a new rim and he replied he saw my car over at Baron's and saw the curb rash. He mentioned that a new rim will be my best course of action. He told me that no matter what the rim shop does it will not look as good as original. I forgot the specifics, but the jist of it was that due to government regulations about how lead is mixed into the rim there cannot be an exact match to the original color. Well, there goes $400 for a new rim. The curbed rim will now be a spare rim.

So, everyone that hasn't had a curb rash be really carefully or else you will end up with a new 166 rim.

Interesting information! I have a nice rash on one of my brand new style 135 rims. Dealer said "no problem, we've fixed a lot worse". Charge is $125 to re-coat the rim they said. Being the skeptic that I am, I have yet to do it and was considering just buying a new rim. No sense throwing away $125 for a half-a*s patch job. This definitely has me leaning towards the new rim. Anyone ever have a curb rash repaired on an OEM BMW rim? How'd it come out?

hmmm, we have a mobile wheel repair guy who comes to our dealer three times a week for curb wheels. I've seen some of his work, oh can't believe how amazing they look after He does all types, painted/polished. Sorry for your situation, but nothing like having a brand new one. Just be careful next time

I'm still going to have a wheel repair shop try to color match it to the original paint. It's just that I need my car this Friday for a Vegas road trip. The rim/wheel shop wanted to keep my rim until Friday.

You jiio...???

I'm surprised and very sorry to hear this

Whatever you'll do with the rims, go for a four
wheel lining at the dealers!

Better safe than sorry.

I just my 4 rims redone. That's from a years worth of parking in NYC parking lots. One curb was me though.
They look as good as new. The guy came right to my house on did all four rims in about 4 hours. $100 a rim.

It was a moment of carelessness on my part. I was going to do a U-turn near a driveway and thought I had cleared the curb on my right and proceeded to turn around. I heard the dreaded noise that could only be a curb rash. Got out and inspected the wheel and there it was. I have come close on numerous occassions and finally subscumbed to Murphy's law. Hopefully, that will be my one and only time.
