Just noticed a crack in my windshield on my ride home from work. Bottom corner. Good way to ruin a weekend. Can't tell if a stone hit it or it's a stress crack.

Any chance that BMW will cover this under their warranty?

Any one out there have their windshield replaced? Tell me it will be just like new. or  Kind of pissed right now... 5K miles and now I need to a replacement. Seal, rear view mirror, trim, rain sensor... all have me concerned that it will get screwed up.

I can understand the frustration :'( My windshield cracked a couple of months ago from a stone kicked up by a truck. I had it replaced at the dealer with a genuine windshield, a little over $500. My insurance company reimbursed me for all except a $100 deductible. The insurance company was originally going to send me to one of their blue ribbon glass places, but I insisted on BMW doing it, telling them about the rainsense feature.

BMW dealer doesn't replace glass.

They just call a glass company like SafeLite, who sends out a guy in a truck.

All that matters is make sure the glass company orders OEM glass.

True, but if you run it through the dealer, you have them standing behind any strange developments (eg rain sensor etc.) whereas a glass shop wouldn't know anything about such arcania.

Good advice. Thanks Ray. I am sure my dealer will sub it out, but I like the idea to have them on the hook for whatever else could go wrong.

Take it to the dealer first and claim it as a stress fracture.

They will examine it in detail and if there is no impact evidence shouild replace under warranty, mine was.

If they find in impact mark, then you can use your insurance.

I'm on my third one. Two free, third was from an impact. All replaced at dealer by third party installer.

I went to the dealer today. They offered to replace the windshield under warranty. Most likely due to the fact that there was no evidence of any stone impact. I really expected them to push back.

A sub will install the new one this week. Let's hope it comes back like new. Thanks for your comments.

I can one up ya. My window cracked 1 week after I picked up my car. Talk about bad Karma! I'm hoping that things go better, since I'v replaced it.

Sorry about your, a replacement never seems to be as good.

Good luck with your new window, let's hope it's just a fluke.
