I recently noticed I had a cracked stock wheel. (Small crack on the inside lip) I called around to some wheel repair shops and one said that he receives about 5-10 calls a week just from BMW owners. He even guessed the car was a BMW when I first called him up. My tire shop also said they see a ton of cracked rims on BMW's. They even joke that BMW stands for Bent My Wheel. WTF BMW.... What is going on here????

Running into curbs or over steel pipes in the road do not count.

of all the developed nations....i think the United States may have the most deteriorated infrastructure, perhaps our factory/stock wheels are not built to withstand such poor roads? just my guess...

Good point. However, the fine engineers at BMW need to take this into account. They (tires shops and wheel repair folks) do not see the issues with MB, Lexus or Jag. Also not on Kia, Hyundai, Toyota or 10 year old Geo Storms.

17 inch rims with non runflats = less chance of damaged rims.Even on our crap UK roads.

It's not just the roads in the U.S. you need to blame, but you are seem much keener on larger rims with lower profile tyres, that will be part of the problem

Part I - I have to agree.

Might be different if we spent more money on the infastructure at home instead of spending billions building and rebuilding third-world countries. Then those corrupt governments only wind up screwing us over time and time again.

Charity begins AT HOME!!

I think we should take the focus off of the roads and we should all know that a larger rim size also increases your chance of damage.
All different makes of cars are driving on the same roads.....why are BMW's having many more cracked wheels than other manufacturers?? I talked to 2 different tire shops and 2 different wheel repair shops (one is welding my wheel now)... all 4 businesses agree that they see many more cracked wheels on BMW's than any other make.
