Just opened the hood to check the belt to see if it's loose after reading CK60's DIY. Notice one of the part was just lying near the left cabin filter area. Does anyone know where exactly the cover supposed to go. I checked RealOEM but it doesn't have a clear illustration where it goes.
It's part #12, cover.

That part goes on top of and between the left and right covers. It's basically a lock that keeps the left and right covers down. Look for a picture of an E60 with it's hood open showing the whole compartment and you should be able to see it.

Woops, you won't see it. It locks the filter housing. Look at page 12 of the instructions for this device and you will see it.

It's the cabin air filters. There are two of them located in the far corners (by the windshield) under the hood. Look at the PDF instructions above (may or not apply to your car, BTW what E60 is it?) on how to get to it. It's easy to replace yourself. Don't let the dealer charge you $100+ to have them change it.
There are numerous threads here with a link to where to get 2 for a good price.
