I had a family dinner and I did not get online last night; missed the thread. WOW yesterday was fun. I have to talk to grogan and get this brake torque thing down. I've had my 545 step for almost two years and I don't know how to launch it. I'll be ready for the next one. Have found new respect for IS350 at least for now.

Hey guys, personally I think the Lexus IS 350 is beautiful car, one that i've thought about owning a few times. My brother plans on buying one at the end of the year. One question for you car experts though... When the IS 350 came out, it was compared by pretty much every major car magazine to the BMW 330ci, and in almost every article that i've read the 330ci came out ahead for one reason or another. Most reviews said the IS350 was slightly faster, but they still thought the 330ci was a more worthy car after sitting behind the wheel. Now, if i'm reading correctly, a stock IS350 is not just faster, but significantly faster than a BMW 550i? Could somebody please confirm that i'm reading these posts corrently?

At 5.0 the (pretty amazing) IS350 time matches the time recorded for a six speed 550 in one of the US magazines. That's the only magazine test I've seen so far. With a step and in the right hands the 5.0 time should likely drop a little further - Znod and Grogan545 have both run sub 5 seconds in their 545's after much practice - and the step seems to be the way to go from an acceleration standpoint. Much respect to the IS350, what a total rocket!

Hi TBlax545i.It took me awhile to get the best starting method down also. All of my sub 5 sec runs were done with no wheelspin. With traction controls off I brake torque to about 1000 rpm,as I release the brake I also go to full thottle in a slower steady motion. If I jab the throttle to to the floor I get wheelspin which always gives me slower times. When I get the start correct my 60' times are in the 1.9's.For many months I thought some wheelspin was necessary for best times, but I have proved to myself that this is incorrect. My best ever 0-60 with wheelspin was 5.00.My best ever without wheelspin is 4.78 sec.If the start isn't good it is easy to get 5.50's and higher 0-60.

I am impressed with the IS350 times.Maybe he is a very good driver. Also maybe his car is easier to get started because of lighter weight and lower torque. Some cars all that is required for best acceleration is to stab and stear.

^^^^^^

Ah ha! I know what to do the next time. The same probably applies to SMG as it does to Step. No more Acceleration Assist for me.

I bet I can get better times minimizing my spins with a controlled motion of the throttle instead of mashing it.

I like to believe this part.

What I did was Left foot on brake, right on gas and as I eased off the brake I applied gas fairly quickly... Traction contol off. And as you said... very minimal tire squeel. I heard a tiny chirp and that was about it. I'm sure if the car was in your hands or Znods the times can be lower.
