That price seems quite high to me - I think your dealer is overcharging you.
I took a golf ball in the windshield last summer; through my dealer (in the arguably less expensive Mid-West):
Windshield: $402.57 part no. 51-31-7-070-294
Sensor: $109.56 part no. 64-11-6-928-326
Cover: $12.63 part no. 51-31-7-027-077
Installation $201.60
I had some other things done that trip so there were some environmental ($12.50) and shop supply ($12.50) charges that may or may not have been part of the windshield replacement but still you're talking about $725-$750 to do it all.
I would request a part by part and hourly price breakdown if I thought they wanted to charge me $1800 for a windshield.
Good luck.

It is clear that BMW of Manhattan lied and misrepresented the work involved (programming required, warranty/safety issue). I tried following up with BMW NA which owns BMW of Manhattan but they were no help. BMW of NA should do better by their customers....the dealer and BMW NA should be brought up on larceny charges (or at least have an investigative report done on how they are trying to screw their customers by lying about the work being done on these cars).

Yep, dead center of the sensor. I parked at the end of the lot, away from all other cars (ironically to keep it safe) and it was a very windy day and an errant shot on a 208 yard par three pushed someones shot all the way to the parking lot, over the burm and trees and smacked dead center of the sensor.

My 545 had HUD and I replaced the windscreen and sensor for a little over $800. Virtually every dealer will outsource glass replacement to a specialist, the guy that did mine was the glass contractor for a couple of the local BMW dealers. I'm surprised that BMWNA isn't stepping up, especially as this is one the BMW owned dealerships - that's just appalling.
On a wider note, dealers may (in the main) be independently owned, but poor dealer behavior reflects just as badly on BMWNA as on the dealer. Until BMW cancels the franchises for dealers who consistently treat customers poorly they will never get their customer satisfaction levels close to the industry leaders.

If you go the the Safelite website, you can get an online quote, including them coming to your house to fix it.
Sorry, I just re-read your post and see you already have the $750 quote from them.

I have had three windshields replaced at the same retailer for abouit $800. I have HUD and the only issue was the first replacement they did not use a BMW HUD windshield and the HUD image was like double vision. They replaced it with a BMW windshield and HUD works great. Rain sensor works fine too.
There is no reprogramming to be done. They are lying to you.
