Question to the experts: When you see that a part has "ENDED" like this one above, does it mean that the newer part below it represents an improvement or redesign and that it's why they no longer manufacture the earlier version? Curious, because I noticed this gent's 5-series is an 05 so wonder if his was equipped with the "ENDED", albeit inferior, part?

BTW, if the tank failed due to excessive cooling system pressure you should have that investigated before a new tank suffers the same fate. Sometimes thermostats stick ... and a weak link [usually a hose] fails. That said, coolant reserve tanks are a known problem area on many BMW's. On my 7's I usually replaced them every 50k-60k miles because it wasn't a question of "if" but more a matter of "when" they were going to fail. And they do - it's typically without warning! Go figure

My Ride: 2004 530isport packagepremium packageactive steeringxenon hids20mm H&R spacers in the rear6 spd51kpurchase price , 32k back in 2006
Model Year: 2004 530i
I just replaced mine. I also replaced the upper radiator hose because it had symptoms of a " collapsed " hose . for those who want to know what this is , before you start your car in the morning open you hood and take a look at your top hose. if the shape of the hose is flat and not round , the hose has became soft and is prone to give you serious problems. when these cars hit over 60k the box like one mentioned will also explode. The dealer sells that reservoir box for less then 90 bucks , the hose was less then 50.
change these out before you do on a driving trip and you run into this problem! you don't want to be stranded!

Add another car to the list of replaced coolant reservoir. I had an indy shop replace it for about $200. One hour of labor plus a new cap and reservoir and coolant. I replaced the thermostate just a few thousand miles before. My developed cracks and would leak out in about 4 days.
