I'm getting this control check in the mornings (last 2 days). The indicator stays as long as the car is on after that first morning start, then goes away on subsequent starts (even after sitting 4 or 5 hours). I'm taking it in to the dlr tomorrow for this and a few other things, but was wondering if this is a common fault reading. Really, really wish I had a temp gauge.

Have had this on both my E60's. You don't mention the age of the car or your mileage but likely just needs topping off. If it repeats again in short order, then it's time to start checking for a leak somewhere...

Did you check your coolant level?
You cant just rely on the indicator on idrive alone as coolant level too low might blown up your engine

I had my water pump, tank and all hoses replaced last week due to the water pump failure/leaks.

It's an '06 550 with 23k miles. It was serviced about a month ago so I would assume it's a leak, but there's nothing on the garage floor to indicate that. Anyway, going in tomorrow for a checkup of that issue as well as the "squeaky breaks" issue and the "loud sunroof" issue that have both been discussed on here at length by others.

just stop by your local dealership, they should top-it off for you for free. Happened to me as well @ 7K miles/11 months.

Happened to me too. Just let the dealer top it off and continue to monitor for leaks.

Top it off as the others have stated, and as for not seeing the leak, it's likely that the leak is small and it is getting caught by the under engine panel, from there it probably just flows out as you drive, leaving NO visible leak on your garage floor! good Luck and keep us posted on the outcome of this!
