06 525. Coolant Low message, car has 7K on it, no leaks that I can tell. I surmise they never checked the overflow tank before delivery. Don't know.

What type of coolant do I need to add to the tank? A type other than BMW has to be OK, my dealer is 60 mi away.

Do I dilute it with distilled water, if so what mix 50/50?

I just topped mine off a few weeks ago (8K miles) after getting coolant level low message. I got it at the dealer (5 miles away). Not sure what other brand (if any) you could use--but the BMW coolant is not your average coolant. It contains no phosphates or nitrites (and is a very dark blue--not the weird yellow/green like Prestone, etc.).

Yes--mix 50%/50% with distilled water.

That's a notorious sensor issue too, so don't OVERfill. For the amount that you "may" need, find someone with an open jug of Prestone or whatever. Or, you could just add Perrier.

Cheers,

Added 12 oz of Prestone / 12 oz water. Like a knuckle head I used tap and not distilled, it'll be a non issue for 12 oz I am sure! I'll remember next time.

If you add coolant, use the BMW stuff, which is different from the typical coolant.
