Hi there! I'm kinda new here (only posted a few times in '04) and I'm now seriously close to finalizing an order for a E60 540i. Specs as follows:
- Titan Grey exterior
- Black interior with Polished Alum
- M Sports Pack (spoilers, suspension, steering, seats)
- 19" wheels
- Professional package (HUD, Sunroof, Comfort access)
- Comfort seats

This is how I expect it to look, with the right color ofcourse:



Our local dealer loaned me a demo 540i for the weekend and I absolutely loved it. It allowed me to have fun on the streets and highway whilst still maintaining a decent can comfortable drive in the city.

I'm currently driving an '03 MB E320. It's a beautiful car but my needs have changed and am now looking for a 'drivers' car now.

My only gripe with the 540i is the sports seat. When I was a doing a highway stretch of around 70kms I developed neck pains as I could not comfortably rest my head against the head rest. It got to a point that I had to stop to message my neck. Have any of you here experienced this? This is a possible deal breaker for me if there is no solution.

I'm hoping the Comfort Seats head rest will be better and offer more support to my neck and head. This is something that is critical to me when I'm cruising. However, my dealer is not sure if the Comfort seats head rest is compatible with the Sports seats. Nor is he sure if the the Comfort Seats are available with the M Sports Pack. Any one here, especially from Oz, know the answer to this?

Assuming I can have the Comfort Seat options, how 'comfortable' are they as a support for the head and neck?

I took delivery of MY06 about 5 weeks ago. Its a great car and certainly looks good. I agree that the sport seats are only OK and don't seems as supportive as my old E39 was... I know you can get comfort seats as an option and there were even a couple of cars in stock with them and the sports pack. You could always buy a 550 and get them standard with a HUD thrown in

My dealer loaned me a 745 for a few days while waiting and it had comfort seats. They were awesome! So many adjustments, I would like them and because the upper seat back curves to suit you and they have the adjustable neck support, should fix it if anything can...

Which country are you in? In the UK the 540i has the harshest depreciation - I'm just wondering how it fares elsewhere?

I have the comfort seats on my 550 and love them. They articulate mid back. Head support is great. You won't go wrong with them.

I'm confused enough about your model nomenclature, but I want to warn you that the current BMWs (my 545, sport, anyway) no longer have hand-tilting headrests, as I had in my E39 540 (and all previous models).

These latest sport seat models have FIXED headrests (just up or down travel), and it's unlikely that you could ever rest your head safely while driving.

Perhaps someone with the 550 and now-standard Comfort seats can illuminate the latest headrest standings.
