Anyone use it? Do you need a compatible phone handset?
I have just signed up for it on BMW's website as my car has media pack, I assume that is what's needed?
Comments welcome!

How recent is your car? I would have thought the dealer would have set it for for you as you get 3 years free subscription with a new car.

Connecteddrive is the name now given to what once was two seperate options BMW online and BMW assist. I dont know if these were both options on the 2005 E60 of your car has BMW assit it should have an SOS button in the roof, BMW assist gives you the concierge service and the ability to text data like navigation destinations to your car from a computer or phone. BMW online adds a limited browser and rss feeds to iDrive. These are not free services though, you get three years signed up for free when the car is brand new after that its ?120 a year to subscribe to connected drive.

I also signed up to ConnectedDrive (last May), but it has never worked. I was told by one dealer that the car software needed updating at a cost to me of ?250+ so i decided it wasn't that important.
P.S. My car is a March 2005 530d with media package and to my knowledge has never been updated.

To my knowledge I dont have anywhere to put a SIM, unless someone else knows where it goes?
In my understanding the Media Pack came with it as standard or have I been sold a pup?
Also my firmware has all been upgraded because I kicked up a stink.

The sim is built in, it doesnt need you to put one in or connect your phone. Also do you have the SOS button in the roof by the map lights?

My Ride: 2008 LCI E61 5-Series Touring M-Sport
Westfield SpeedSport (Race car). 250bhp, weighs 500kg. 500bhp/ton. 0-60mph 3.2secs.
We chose Media Pack as an option (?2k or ?3k IIRC), and that included Sat Nav Pro, Bluetooth etc, and "BMW Connected Drive Online" (the google maps and browser thing) and "BMW Connected Drive Assist" (the SOS button and stuff). It all runs off it's own SIM that it's got somewhere, and is separate to the Bluetooth Phone.
