NEW RIDE- 2005 Silver Gray Metallic 545I, Sports package, 6 Speed manual Transmission, Premium Sound, Navigation, Cold Weather Package, Folding Rear Seats, Heated Rear Seats and Park Distance Control.
Your E60 with V8 is on of the least reliable among all sedans and the worst in BMW lineup as reported by Consumer Magazine.
Personally, can?t argue with this conclusion.

I derive some satisfaction in noting that MB made every category of the worst reliability index. Hold on, I take that back...C Class prevented a clean sweep

My Ride: 2005 545i with Sport Pkg, Nav, HUD, Cold Weather Pkg, Rear Shades
What is their methodology for collection and analysis of the data??
For instance, the same "problem" could occur in a e60 and a Toyota Camry, (parcel shelf rattle, creaks, etc), but would most Camry owners even care and report it?? On the other hand, we e60 owners are pretty picky about things (at least quite a few of us are) and we try to get our cars perfect. In this situation, it would be one point against BMW. How can you put a Camry or Accord in the same category as a BMW?? They are not even in the same class, even without the V8.

My Ride: F11 535i M-Sport,, Silver, Black Leather, LED Adaptive headlights
Model Year: 2015
Engine: N55
JD Power surveys in the UK often come up with a cheaper car as a winner.
It is all about expectation.
You buy a BMW / MB it has to be perfect or you complain like hell.
Buy a car for ?7000 you do not expect much so are often pleasantly surprised.
Nothing wrong with that, but you always need to keep in mind what may be behind the results.

Problem solved!
I just ran down to the garage and pulled out two cylinders from my engine.
My car is reliable again. Yay!
