I just ordered the tape as well. My plan was to see how it worked out. I was planning on putting some money aside for the trim pieces in the meantime if the tape didn't last. If it did, then I'd just use that money on other mods

I looked up the part numbers for the trim on realoem.com and this is what I came up with for the matte black:

51337072883
51337072884
51357072887
51357072888
51217135161
51217135162
51227135163
51227135164

There are also gloss black trim parts that are much more expensive...

Someone on he told me that a single roll at 30 feet long, 3 inches thick can take care of the whole car. He also suggested that I cut the roll in half down the middle, ending up with 2 one and one half inch thick rolls to cover my bases for errors.

Sound like a good idea? Or do you need the full 3 inches for good coverage?

That should work fine. That is what I did. I bought 2 rolls to be on the safe side. Also helps if you have a heat gun.

Another route is you could paint it. I might do that this summer.

So my roll of vinyl tape arrived today. I'm just gonna go by the instructions that came with it. The roll looks wider than 3 inches. After looking at it and comparing it to the chrome, I think cutting it in half will still give me plenty of coverage. I'm not going to remove any of the chrome trim and try to do it by taping over it and cutting off excess with exacto knife. I'll post pics of my DIY when I'm all done.

It's best to take the trim off and wrap around it. When you apply it mounted and cut with a knife, chances are that the vinyl is still stretched. Over time and during the summer the vinyl can still shrink a bit. That means some of the chrome will start to peek through at the Xacto cut line.

Also, I wouldn't cut the length in half. Just cut a little bit more than the trim you are working on at the time. You may risk being a few inches off on a piece if you cut it in half. Happened to me.

It ALL comes down to how well the tape is applied....there have been those around here who tried to go the tape route, only to rip it all off and buy the genuine parts! They LOVED the actual parts, and the look they create!

Are the part numbers listed all that is needed. BMW of south atlanta has these parts listed for a total of $345.17 plus tax. Does this sound right?

There are dealers online that have the parts cheaper than BMW of South Atlanta. Tischer BMW is one of them. Tischer accessories
