Just curious guys. My wife drives a 545SMG. I've reset her MPG meter periodically. I noticed today that since I last reset it, her average MPG was 23.3 and average speed was 37.
On my last car which was a 330xi I was the primary driver, but I would average in the 22's. Her last car was a Mercedes C320, and her computer would tell me that she averaged like 23.5-25.
It seems like the v8 in her current car would be much worse. I would expect somewhere in the range of maybe 18? Has anyone noticed if their gauges are really innacurate, or is her light footed driving style the culprit?

Car computer mpg is typically about 5% high. Yours sounds even more optimistic. Manually verify it yourself over the course of a few tanks of gas.
For city driving (avg speed of 25-40 mph), I usually see 18-20 mpg. (545 w/ 6-speed manual)

how did you guys do it? my 530i is doing average 16-17 mpg!
ive seen a number of gas mileage issues here on the forums. my 530i presently shows 19.2 - 19.6 and before it would be showing anywhere from 18.2 - 21. at that time i did it manually once (recording how many miles and dividing it byhow many gallons of gas i fill up with) and it turned out i was doing about 18 flat. so far its been steady at about 19.4. your (baadaaboo) 530i may be doing 16 - 17 mpg but other 530s in the u.s. have reported to have as much as 24 mpg. yes driving style and where you drive has a lot to do with it. for me, im always in manual mode in my step. but even guys driving normally, or they said they were, were getting low mpg numbers.

I get VERY low mpg, I average around the ~15mpg mark. I usually drive in D mode, and don't really rev the engine when in the city. The xi E60's need more fuel to run the xi setup. Had I known that the real world mpg for xi would be this low, I would have went with the 550i instead. Bought the 530xi thinking I would come on top on in terms of fuel economy.
With my 530i I average between 24-26. I just filled up on Sunday and as of today it's saying 24.7 for this tank. I wouldn't consider myself light footed but compared to some of the other numbers I've seen it makes me look like an angel. When I drive accross the country I can usually average between 30-32.

Even with my old 330xi manual, I had to really baby it... no passing... sitting in the slow lane to acheive 30.
